You might have noticed the AT&T Wireless Ad that set to Daydreamin' by Lupe Fiasco and featuring Jill Scott. It was quite the infectious earworm. It made me wonder about the origins of the song. Thanks to the wonders of YouTube I found a performance by the original artist, Belgian band Wallace Collection. Check it out - it's quite the 70's acid trip. And as a bonus, Daydream In Blue by I Monster which is a bridge between the original and the Lupe Fiasco version.

Thanks so much, Marisa :) Isn't that Wallace Collection surprisingly contemporary in a way? And, according to the Wikipedia article I linked, they sampled Swan Lake - just goes to show you that good music is timeless!

After you mentioned them sampling Swan Lake, it's all I can hear now! That Wallace Collection video is something else. . . I think I like the remix of the song better. My sis has loved the I Monster mix since we heard it in a British TV shows a few years back. Thanks for finding all these!

Thanks for your comment, eliz! Sorry to plant another earworm ;) I wasn't familiar with the I Monster track but was happy to find it. I really like all these versions and it is so interesting to see not only how they connected musically but how the artists interpreted it visually.
